Description
The heating element for water tank, in the industry it is also accurately called flange immersion heater , and its core features are:
equipped with flange, the entire heating part is immersed in water.
The working environment is liquid, not air, nor the mold.
The following four issues must be considered: scale buildup, corrosion, electric leakage, dry burn.The water tank heating element is wet-burned by being immersed in water. The selection logic is vastly different.
Regarding the material of the water tank heating element,can be followed below:
304 Stainless Steel:Tap water, pure water, domestic hot water, low-concentration salt water
316L stainless steel:Chlorinated water, mild acidic or alkaline liquids, seawater (short-term), normal temperature chemical media
Price: Approximately 30% higher than 304.
Fankly speaking, 90% of industrial water tanks can be adequately covered by 304 stainless steel heating element. However, in three specific cases, it is necessary to upgrade to 316L:
There is chlorine in the water (chlorine is added for disinfection in tap water and for sterilization in circulating water)
It is installed in coastal areas, and the air contains salt
There are compliance requirements in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
The material of the heating element should be the same as or higher than the water tank. For example, a 304 water tank should be paired with a 304 flange, while a 316L water tank cannot be paired with a 304 flange (as it would cause electrochemical corrosion).
There are two types of immersion heaters in tank heating application: direct immersion and indirect immersion. The direct immersion heater is installed inside of the tank in direct contact with the medium. It is used mostly in water heating or other such chemicals where the contact with the heating rods are acceptable and the conductivity of heat transfer is best attained as such. The indirect immersion heater is installed inside the tank, but surrounded by a pipe shaped shielding so that the medium inside of the tank does not directly contact the heating rods. It is primarily used in applications for slow heating of the tank to keep the medium at a prescribed temperature for optimal circulation density.
How to choose the suitable water tank heating element? How to confirm the size and power?
If we want to fix the power of the customized water tank heating element,we must know the following three factors:
1.We must know the volume and weight of the water in the tank.
2.The temperature difference.
3.The heating time:what time will it require to heat the required temperature.
If we master these three factors,we can caculate the power of the water tank heating element.
When we know the power,then we must design the dimension of the heating element according to the water tank.
Besides,when we are deigning the water tank heating element ,the installation way should also be considered.
Horizontal installation and vertical installation.
If the customized water tank heating element is flange type, a hole needs to be drilled on the tank body to weld a section of outer tube to weld the female flange. Then, the heating element is inserted into the hollow outer pipe. Finally, the female flange is fixed to the flange on the upper part of the electric heating tube of the water tank with screws.
So the liquid volume in this hollow outer pipe section is very small. If the entire area below the flange of the water tank's electric heating tube is the heating zone, the heat absorption of the part passing through the hollow tube will be slow, which may cause the surface temperature to be too high and burn out.
Therefore, the water tank heating element should reserve a cold zone of the same length as the external connection pipe. This way, the heating tube will not be burned out. This is a problem that many people will ignore.

To assemble the heating element for the water tank,we should also pay attention to the liquid level,the assemble direction.
If there is area which do not touch the water,the cold area should be designed.
So above all,we can know that to promise the long life of the tank water heater ,we should choose the suitable power design,the right material,keep the cold area.
