Stem Type Water Thermostat

The stem type water thermostat is a thermostat that uses the difference in thermal expansion coefficients between copper rods and nickel rods to sense temperature, and is equipped with a bimetallic disc to control a bipolar safety cutoff, and is suitable for storage water heaters.

Most people have conceptualized that the thermostat will turn off the water heater when it is not used. But it is not true. The water heater heats the water and keeps it warm for a certain amount of time. After that, the temperature automatically goes down.When the temperature goes down, the thermostat again heats the water. Stem Type Water Thermostat works using the differential expansion of the sensing element which causes the opening of a snap-action switch in the rod thermostat head. In case of abnormal temperature rise, the patented double safety device acting on stem and on bimetallic disk or traditional bimetal ensures double pole safety.

The limiter is manually resettable. Immersion heater thermostat is widely used worldwide to control water temperature thanks to their reliability and easy and quick plug-in installation which reduces mounting and wiring costs.

It is reliable and cheap, this type of thermostat is plugged in. Its long stem expands as the temperature rises. If the thermostat overheats, it is necessary to reset the thermostat manually. However, this overheating is sometimes caused by a heating element failure; it is therefore strongly advised to check both to determine the origin of the malfunction.

How To Replace

Changing the Stem Type Water Thermostat is as easy as installing an electric switch. After knowing how to test a thermostat, you can even handle the repairs without emptying the storage tank. However, you must turn off the power supply and check the wires for voltage before anything to prevent possible accidents.

For extremely hot water, you will need to change both thermostats on your heater. Even if the problem is caused by a single thermostat, it is recommended you change the two thermostats since they are affordable.
