Description

 

Band heater is ring shaped element which is to heat cylindrical pipes and tubes.It is especially used in the plastic industry.

 

Usually it is the original heat of the moulding process. They can also be used for drum heating, film processing, and hot melting adhesive containers.

The leadwire can be connected to the face or the edge of the band heater ,Plus, they can also be fitted from a terminal box if required, and we offer metal braided sleeves for additional protection.

 

Band Heaters are designed to wrap around cylindrical metal surfaces or containers such as pipes, barrels, drums, extruders, and so forth. They feature bolted locking tabs to securely clamp onto the surface of the container. Inside the band, the heater is a thin resistance wire or ribbon typically insulated by a mica layer. The sheathing is made of stainless steel or brass. Another advantage of using band heaters is that it indirectly heats the fluid inside the vessel. This means the heater is not subjected to any chemical attack from the process fluid. Possible ignition is also prevented when used for oil and lubricant service.

Guide to Design Selection

1. Select heaters with diameters closely matching your cylinder or barrel, allow a gapbetween ends to prevent touching when they are clamped. Standard gap is 1/4".

2. Calculate the surface area of your cylinder to be heated.

3. Using the curves shown, determine the recommended watt density for your operatingtemperatures. For heaters 2-1/2" or wider decrease watt density by 15%. Decreasewatt density by 30% when using "on/off" thermostats instead of solid controllers.

4. Multiply surface area by watt density to determine required wattage for your heater.

5. Select correct combination of heaters from standard designs.

Design and customization

1) The user shall provide the dimension drawings or samples of the band heaters element for pipe . If no drawings or samples are available, the user shall provide the specifications, dimensions, voltage, power and special requirements of the product.

2) The surface power of the mica heating ring is 3.5W/cm2.

3) The shell protection material of mica heating ring is generally stainless steel.

Smaller size Mi-plus band heaters are powered -up by means of lead wire terminations. To insure a resilient connection that will withstand abrasion,machanical abuse and keep contaminants out of the transition area ,specially designed stainless steel transition cap with a built-in strain relief was developed.
