Description

 

Silicon carbide heating elements are porous bodies (typically 8-25%) where the furnace atmosphere can react through the cross-section of the material. The whole heating element may be gradually oxidized which leads to an increase in the electrical resistance properties of the elements over time (commonly referred to as "aging") A variable voltage supply is usually required to maintain the desired power output from the elements by gradually increasing the voltage to the elements during their lifetime. This aging eventually limits the life and performance of the heating element.

 

Many company use SiC element in many of our high temperature furnaces and kilns. They are self-supporting, which enables them to be used in furnaces and kilns that are too wide or too long to be spanned by metallic or MoSi2 heating elements. Silicone carbide heater is capable of higher operating temperatures and higher watt loadings than metallic elements and are relatively easy to change while the furnace is hot.

 

Silicon Carbide Heating Elements are used in diverse number of settings, from ceramics and heat treating to metallurgy, assaying and incineration. They can be used for application temperatures up to 2,912ºF (1,600ºC), and are available in an array of configurations and styles to meet most standard needs, with customized options available by custom order.

 

SIC element used in the air to 800℃ began to oxidize, the temperature reached 1000-1300℃, the surface of the heating part generated a layer of silicon dioxide protective film, 1300℃ crystallization of quartz, at 1500℃, the protective film reached a certain thickness, so that the oxidation rate of the element becomes extremely slow, tends to be stable. If the temperature continues to rise to more than 1627℃, the protective film will be damaged, and the oxidation rate will increase significantly, resulting in premature sic heater damage.

 

Although oxidation of the sic heater is very slow, but long time running will still lead to the increase of resistance value, this phenomenon is called "aging". In order to slow down the "aging" rate, under special atmosphere conditions, we can provide different types of protective coating components to improve its service life.
