Mica band heaters are also known as electric band heaters which is made with high-grade mica; the type and thickness of each mica insulating layer are carefully selected to provide excellent thermal conductivity and high dielectric strength. Similarly, to create a uniform heat distribution throughout the heater and to maintain the lowest possible resistive circuit temperature, an optimum combination of resistance ribbon alloy, cross-section and length are selected to design the resistance winding of each heater.

 

Mica band heater is rugged and heavy duty heaters made for applications that require high temperatures (up to 1400ºF) and high watt densities (up to 100 w/in2). These heaters are ideal for increasing output especially in injection molding and to meet the heating requirements to process newly engineered high tech resins. The nickel chrome resistive material inside a mineral insulated heater is embedded in Aluminum Oxide insulating medium which provides excellent heat transfer and dielectric strength. A stainless steel outside casing gives external protection.

 

In the field of industrial heating, mica band heater is made of nickel-chromium alloy heating wire as heating body, natural mica as insulation layer, and the outer layer is made of high stainless steel as conductive heating layer, which can be machined into various shapes according to demand.

To maximize the surface-to-surface contact, mica band heaters are carefully rounded and formed to optimize the grip on a machine barrel. The external metallic protective sheath of a is made of a special alloy, which expands less than the barrel when heated. This difference in thermal expansion makes the heater grip the barrel firmly once it is energized, and this improves heat transfer. 

Band heaters are made in different construction styles, clamping mechanisms, and terminal types. Holes, cutouts, slots, thermocouple or mounting brackets can be accommodated in the design.

 

How to use the mica band heater properly?

1. Choose the appropriate Mica Band Heater

Ensure that the size and shape of the heater match the surface of the equipment. They are typically used to heat cylindrical surfaces.
Select appropriate power and voltage according to application requirements to ensure that the heater can provide the required heat.

2. Prepare to install the surface

3. Install the heater
Place the Mica Band Heater in the target position of the device and secure it with appropriate fixtures or bolts. Most Mica Band Heaters come with built-in fixtures for easy installation.
When connecting the wires of the heater to the power supply, ensure that the connection is tight and well insulated to prevent electric shock or short circuit.

Do not bend 1 piece heaters 

To provide close contact with heating surface, tighten clamping bands while taping around the outside of band heaters. After heat-up, occasionally re-tighten the clamping band. 

To tighten post terminals, bottom nut should be held in place while tightening top nut (to avoid putting stress on terminal). 

Avoid spilling oils, grease, water or molten plastic on leadwires, post terminals or ends of heaters. 

Do not pull on leadwires with a force exceeding 15 lbs. Select the band heater whose diameter most closely approximates the diameter of your part.

Beyond the heating of a sheath and its contents, band heaters are also used for shrinking.Playing on the phenomenon of expansion of metals, the outer element called hoop is heated in order to introduce the inner part, called hoop part and allow when the assembly cools, to make one and the other united.
